General information about bronze

General classification

Bronzes called copper dual and multicomponent copper alloys, where the alloying elements except zinc are other metals. Bronze are divided into two groups: tin, where the predominant alloying element is tin, and special bronze (without tin). Bronze on technological grounds are divided into cast and wrought. The bronze intended for casting of shaped castings. Wrought — easily rolling, stamping, fluting, forging and other processing methods under pressure, which are used in production. In comparison with the brass bronzes have higher strength, corrosion resistance and antifriction properties. Wrought of bronze is very resistant to atmospheric moisture, sea water, carbonate solutions, in solutions of organic acids.

Alloying bronze

As alloying elements are aluminium, tin, Nickel, iron, manganese, silicon, phosphorus, lead, beryllium, zirconium, chromium, etc. In the bronze, where the alloying elements are in solid solution, they strengthen the deformation hardening. The elastic properties of bronze rise further low-temperature annealing at a temperature from 250 to 300 °C. of Bronze, which contains chromium, beryllium, zirconium, etc. elements, hardened precipitation-hardening, with variable solubility in α-solid solution. To this class belong the bronze stamps Brazhn10−4-4.

The basic qualities

Elements such as aluminum, tin, silicon and Nickel increase the strength of bronze, its elasticity and corrosion resistance, and in combination with phosphorus, lead and zinc antifriction properties. Nickel and iron ensure the grinding of grain and increase the recrystallization temperature. Silicon and manganese increase the heat resistance of the bronzes. Chromium, zirconium and beryllium, especially after quenching and aging, greatly enhance the strength, at the same time slightly reducing the conductivity of the alloy. These elements greatly increase the heat resistance. Bronze (except aluminum and beryllium) for the most part easy to welding and soldering soft and hard solders.

Bronze without tin

They are not inferior in their properties and sometimes superior to the bronze tin. Such bronzes find wide application in engineering and other industries. They are used in the manufacture of critical parts: gears, fittings, bushings, bearings, reservoirs, tanks, etc.
